Each year a procession of well-trained and cared elephants carry Goddess Chamundeshwari in a 750-kg golden howdah from mysore palace to bannimantap
They arrive here from different forest camps about 2 months in advance, where they are closely taken care of and trained for the event! Forest officials work closely during the entire event.
The lead elephant carries the golden Howdah during the procession. In 2024, Captain Abhimanyu (elephant) is the one carrying the Howdah.
A total of 14 elephants will participate in the procession.
The procession goes through 5.5 kms route from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap Ground.
The lead elephant carries a 750 Kg Howdah with Golden sheets of 85 Kgs! Seated on the Howdah is the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari who is brought from the Chamundi Hill during Dashami
The legendary elephants of Jumbo savari have led the procession for many years. Elephant Drona had carried the Howdah for 18 years before he tragically expired by electrocution.
The Jumbo Savari is a royal procession of Goddess Chamundeshwari or Durga who is the guardian deity of Mysore. The elephants have been an integral part of the celebration for centuries.
