A Fort of Legends
Built in 1537, Srirangapatna Fort stands as India’s second toughest fort. Expanded by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, it played a key role in resisting British forces in South India.
Strategic Location
The fort sits on an island in River Cauvery, naturally enhancing its defenses. The double-wall fortification and deep moats made it nearly impenetrable.
The Mighty Walls
With 40 ft high walls, the fort had a unique defense strategy. It featured four main gates—Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore, and Water & Elephant gates.
The Last Stand of Tipu Sultan
Located 35 km from Mysore, take a KSRTC bus to Bannur (₹20–30) and a shared tuk-tuk for 9 km. From Bangalore, travel via Mysore or Mandya.
Indo-Islamic Architecture
The fort exhibits Indo-Islamic architecture, with intricate Persian inscriptions on its gateways, marking its history and cultural significance.
