How to Reach Lakshadweep

By Air

Air travel is the most common and easiest way to reach Lakshadweep. The main gateway to the Union Territory is the Agatti Island airport. There are flights from several major Indian cities.
By air: Take a flight to Cochin International Airport (COK) from Indira Gandhi International Airport by airlines including IndiGo and Air India. It is a 3-4 hour flight. From Cochin, you can take a connecting flight to Agatti Island for a 1-hour journey.
From Mumbai: Fly to Cochin (about 1.5 hours) and then to Agatti, like in Delhi.

  • From Bangalore: There’s a direct flight to Cochin, which takes around an hour, then Aagatti is an hour away.
From Chennai: There are direct flights to Agatti that take about 1.5 hours.

Coming from Trivandrum: This is one of the fastest routes! Trivandrum to Agatti flight takes around 1 hour.
If you’re coming from Kolkata and Bhubaneswar: First fly to Cochin and get a connecting flight to Agatti.

By Sea to Lakshadweep

If you are feeling ambitious and have extra time, take a ferry! Travelling by sea may be a more attractive option for the scenic views of Arabian Sea it offers. There are ferries operated from Cochin to a number of islands in Lakshadweep.
Cochin: The ferry journey takes around 14-20 hours, depending on which part of Lakshadweep you go to. You can take ferries to islands such as Kavaratti, Agatti and Minicoy. It’s a lovely journey, but be sure to check the ferry schedule in advance; it can be subject to weather conditions.

Travel Tips

  1. Advance Booking: Flights and ferries can book up quickly, particularly during high tourist seasons (October to May). Make sure to buy your tickets in advance!
  2. Obtain your Permits: Lakshadweep has entry requirements (permits) for tourists. The islands require a permit for visits, and this can be arranged through travel agencies or online platforms. Do this beforehand for a smooth sail!
  3. Pack Wisely: The islands embrace beach life. So hold your swim suits, sunscreens, hats around, as well as maybe an excellent book for those lazy hours on the beach. If you want to explore the coral reefs, a pair of water shoes comes in handy as well.
  4. Connectivity: When you’re on the islands, expect limited connectivity. It’s the ultimate excuse to disconnect and sink into island living!
  5. Get off the Beach: Though it is tempting to spend all day on the beaches, be sure to engage in activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking to see the marine life Lakshadweep is home to. Look for activity options on Thrillophilia.
  6. Local Food: Take time to enjoy the local Kerala cuisine, a delicious blend of unique flavours. Don’t skip fresh seafood, coconut-infused dishes and classic sweets!
  7. Honor the Culture: Lakshadweep has a culture and way of life that is unique. Be gracious and cognizant of the cultures, and befriend the local people—they have experiences and knowledge to share that you wouldn’t encounter in a traditional setting but will elevate your trip.

So, are you excited to sail down to Lakshadweep? This tropical paradise is just a flight or ferry ride away, and with its awe-inspiring landscapes, vibrant culture, and thrilling adventures ahead of you, there is no better time to surf the secrets this island in the Sun has to offer. Soak in the sun, embody the island spirit, form memories to last the ages! Happy travels!
